Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) occurs when blood vessels outside the heart—typically carrying blood to the legs, feet, arms, or kidneys—become narrowed, calcified, or blocked by fatty cholesterol deposits (plaque). This causes restricted blood circulation to tissues, leading to painful cramps, cold feet, non-healing sores, skin breakdown, or in critical stages, gangrene and limb loss.
A high-contrast X-ray imaging scan used to visualize the vascular pathways in your extremities. A special fluid dye is injected to map your vessels and pin-point the precise site and severity of blood flow blockages.
Following angiography diagnosis, a tiny balloon is inflated at the block location to split the narrowing. A vascular stent is then placed to support the artery walls and keep blood flowing freely.
