CoronaryAngioplasty & Stenting

A minimally invasive catheter procedure (PCI) using an expandable balloon and stent to clear arterial blockages, restoring healthy blood flow and shielding the heart from potential attack.

Coronary Angioplasty Stent Deployment

What is Coronary Angioplasty?

Coronary Angioplasty, also known as Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI), is a highly advanced, minimally invasive procedure performed to open arteries clogged by plaque build-up. By inflating a miniature balloon at the target block site and expanding a medical stent, it compresses plaque, establishes normal vessel width, and secures the blood channel.

How Is It Done?

Performed under local anaesthetic, matching angiography access:

1

Access & Balloon

A catheter is guided to the artery block site, where a balloon is gently inflated to widen the narrowed artery walls.

2

Stenting

A small mesh cylinder (stent) is permanently expanded at the target block site to keep the artery open.

3

Drug Elution

Modern drug-eluting stents slowly release special medicine to prevent scar tissue build-up and vessel re-narrowing.

PROCEDURAL BENEFITS

Why Angioplasty is Highly Effective

No Open-Heart SurgeryDone completely through a micro-incision in the wrist or groin, avoiding the need for a major chest incision.
Shorter HospitalizationRequires a stay of only 1–2 days, allowing you to return to normal activities much faster.
Rapid Recovery PeriodAllows a quicker recovery path compared to traditional coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG).
Immediate Pain ReliefProvides rapid relief from chest pressure, shortness of breath, and typical angina symptoms.
Improved Life QualityRestores the ability to engage in exercise, physical hobbies, and normal exertion without discomfort.
STENT TECHNOLOGY

Types of Stents Used

Bare Metal Stents (BMS)

A basic metal mesh structure that holds the artery open permanently.

Drug-Eluting Stents (DES)

Coated with medication released over time to prevent tissue regrowth and re-blockage.

Bioresorbable Stents

Advanced scaffolds that support the artery temporarily and dissolve after healing is complete.

CLINICAL GUIDE

When Is It Advised?

Severe Artery BlockageRecommended when significant narrowing (typically >70%) is found.
Uncontrolled AnginaIdeal for chest pain not responding effectively to standard medications.
Acute Heart Attack EventsUsed as an emergency or follow-up therapy to restore flow to damaged muscles.
Failed Medical ManagementFor patients whose coronary symptoms continue to progress despite optimal medication.

I had an amazing experience with Dr. Subhash. My father's Coronary Calcium score was way too high but he was asymptomatic. Dr. explained everything in very detail and went above and beyond to do the very best he could. He checked all the alternatives available and advised us the best. He answered all the doubts I had and made it very clear for us what next steps should be taken.
